8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1144 pages; The 12 issues for 1856 bound together in one stout volume, including title and contents pages for both volumes. 1/2 leather over pebbled brown cloth. Soundly bound and complete. All 12 fashion plates present though three are damaged by small pieces being cut away mid plate. Several of the first 15 pages loose from the binding. A few tissue guards missing or damaged. Prior owner has left some of her fashion templates and outline cut outs laid in. Solidly bound full year volumes 52 & 53 with some of the mild depradations expected. Embroidery and sewing designs, templates, steel plate engravings, hand-colored fashion plates, sheet music, recipes for kitchen and hom &c. &c. VG- thus. ... Steel plate, wood cuts, handcolored fashion plates; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 1182 pages; 12 issues for 1863, complete. Volumes LXVI & XLVII. Bound together in two matching volumes of 1/2 leather over marbled paper boards; leather joints strong and title lettering still bright in gilt. Bound for George Crocker with his name in gilt at base of spines. Front signature of both books is looses from the binding cords. Partial splits in endpages of Vol I and front internal hinge broken in Vol II. Contents page for Vol I bound in at rear, with extra illustrated title page present for the whole year but lacking the printed volume title page for the first of the two volumes. Folding color plate for March is missing a one inche vertical slice between folds. All emroidery, fashion pages and hand colored fashion plates are present. Some minimal mendidng and reinforcement to the folds of several of the folding color fashion plates using archival material on the blank verso surfaces. December's folding plate is loose and laid in. Some few plates a little rubbed and furred at edges where they protruded from the page block. Leather lightly rubbed at edges and corners. This set of twelve issues appears to have been bound from the subscriber's set of twelve individual issues, with idiosyncracies of order the result. Plates in Jan to June open from the right while plates from the latter 6 months open from the left. Original singles issue binding cord holes visible in margins. Ads at rear of the final issue. Uncommon Civil War full year set of issues. Embroidery and sewing designs, fashion pictures, sheet music, receipts for kitchen & home etc. G++ thus. ... Soundly bound in 3/4 pebbled black leather with raised bands over spine and titles tooled in gilt. Boards covered in dark green and black mottled paper. 8 handcolored fashion plates present, missing plates for January, June, July, and December. October's plate has surface loss from skinning caused by being placed adjacent to a chromo colored plated of paper dolls. Lacking a title page for the whole volume and for Vol 58. Contents pages for both whole volumes present. Profusely illustrated with b&w fashion plates, colored pattern pages for emroidery and needlepoint, paper doll plates, steel plate engravings and hundreds of wodcuts in text. Leather lightly rubbed and scuffed at spine ends and corner tips; light surface rubbing to paper boards. Several tissue guards for plates missing. Overall sound and clean.
