12 Hampson, John Memoirs of the Late Rev. John Wesley, A. M. : [In 3 Volumes] With a Review of His Life and Writings, and a History of Methodism, from it's Commencement in 1729, to the Present Time
London James Graham ; and sold by J. Johnson 1791 First Edition Hardcover Good
12mo 7" - 7" tall; 681 pages; Printed for the author by James Graham ; and sold by J. Johnson. 1st edition. 3 volumes, complete. 1st edition. Ix, 221; 216; 235, [1] pp. Scarce early collection of Wesley and history of Methodism. Uniformly bound in institutional green buckram but with no evidence of institutional ownership. Instead these volumes from the personal collection of Methodist historian Frederick E Maser with Maser's bookplate to the front pastedown of Vol I and his subsequent gift inscription on the adjacent flyleaf. Presumably rebound thus by Maser or more likely intended for inclusion in a library collection and intercepted by Maser prior to accession. Endpages refreshed; contents complete, including the errata sheet at rear of Vol III. First and las leaves of the volumes show some stress in the gutters from the glue used to attach the text block to the new endsheets. Overall the text blocks are clea and neat. Quite uncommon in the original edition, this complete set could be recased in more attractive and sympathetic materials. Good plus, thus - only. ...
