Miniature book in publisher's decorative trade binding of red cloth with ornate gilt floral scroll patterns to cover and spine. 7 cm tall by 5 cm wide. Illustrated with woodcuts. Binding snug and contents neat. Gilt at spine dulled but legible. Ornate cover design repeated on rear board in blind. Top edge gilt. Just mild bumping and rub to cloth at edges. Mild dulling at spine may be some consequence of minimal silverfish predation. Handsome manuscript insciption of prior ownership to front endpage, dated Feb. , 1861. An attractive and well preserved example of this uncommon Miniature. Only several copies found in a search of publicly held copies on Worldcat. VG

Despite Harned's inscribed assertions this green cloth binding is presumed to be the third issue of the book with these plates, done up in 1891. Top edge gilt; other edges untrimmed.
