13 Markham, G[Ervase] and G. Jefferies and Experienced Indians The Citizen and Countryman's Experienced Farrier; Containing the Most and Best Approved Method of Ordering, Dieting, Exercising, Purging, Scowering, ... Surest and Best Receipts in the Know World
Chambersburg PA Printed by Thomas J. Wright 1839 Full leather Good
12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 332 pages; A later issue of one of the most highly regarded Farrier guides used in early America. Original American imprint was by Adams of Wilmington in 1764, later republished by Sower of Baltimore in 1797 and brought back into print by Wright of Chambersburg with two or three printings between 1830 and 1841. In original calf boards, with professional calf rebacking retaining the morocco title label at spine. Boards surface and edge rubbed with a small triangular area of loss to the leather at the upper front corner. Corners bumped and a little rounded, Contents complete but with some soiling and staining as follows: a dark oily type stain in the gutter margins at the foot of the first 40 or so pages, does not intrude into the text. A lighter tea colored damp stain to the top spine edge intrudes into the text but is mild and generally unobtrusive. A few instances of a dark spot of soil to several adjoining pages likely the result of receipt preparation or barn soil. Top front corner of the last half of the text has a shallow gouge or gnaw to the paper. Prior ownership to front endpage Adam Miller from Bareville, Lancaster. His or another owner's several notes to front and rear pastedowns regarding other recipes and remedies. A book that has evidence of regular use but complete and decent. Now quite uncommon in any of the early editions. Good

14 Miller, Ethel Hull; Messenger Miller (Ed) & Virginia Anderson (Ills) White Saddle; First Days in America
Poland, OH Gold Seal Publications 1937 First Edition Thus Hardcover Good+ Signed by Author
Photographs, drawings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; [np] pages; [SIGNED] 1937 Gold Seal Publications. HC in glossy pictorial boards. This volume printed as a selection from the "White Saddle Big Book." Inscribed and signed by Ethel Hull Miller at the base of the preface page. Approx. 50 pages, unnumbered. Illustrated with endsheet drawings and in-text line illustrations by Anderson. A photograph on the glossy cover board and a photographic insert is also laid in at front. A cut-out stand up figure of "White Saddle" is also laid in at front. The glossy cover was probably accomplished with a basic varnish. It has evidence of some mild adhering/sticking to other books on the shelf with some light pitting and adhesion scarring that show as patches of cery small white spots. Text block is sound but is laying inside the pictorial boards. Light rub to the the boards at spine ends and corners. This particular edition of White Saddle appears to be extremely uncommon; I can find no record of any institutional ownership or a catalog entry in any database. Probably offered as a reader for a younger age group than the regular edition, this edition features short narrative pieces with numerous illustrations. A decent, if somewhat worn copy; signed by the authot and with two additional paper pieces relating to White Saddle included. G++; Signed by Author
