Folio 13" - 23" tall; 1298 pages; Folio. The "Elector Bible" featuring full page woodcut engravings of the Prince-Electors of the Holy Roman Empire. [94] 1181, [23] pp. Augsburg Confession at rear. Bound in a mid 19th century 1/2 calf over pebbled brown cloth boards. Spine covering detached and laid in at front. Title page in red and black is bound in on a stub. Frontis of Luther missing along with two of the Elector portraits. Text printed in double columns inside a line border; profusely illustrated with pictorial vignettes from woodcuts, decorative head and tail pieces and decorative initials. Shallow damp stain line across the top corner of the first half of the text. Occasional expected light soiling to pages, but in general a clean and bright text. Candidate for respining or recasing. Squat, stout volume in period patterned paper over boards. Binding sound and snug with boards sound in joints. Paper over boards rubbed over spine edges with flaking and light chipping; boards visible at spine edges but remaining well bound. Scattered toning and foxing to text is generally mild. Spine panel unlettered but a rectangular paper label is mounted near crown with a hand lettered 3 digit numeral. Sound and clean. Uncommon in either of the tw volume and scarcer still in the complete 2 volume form dealing with all 4 Gospels. VG-

16mo 6" - 7" tall; 1st edition of this important and enduring Lancaster Mennonite songbook. Bound in full period polished calf which is chipped at spine ends and rubbed at edges; both clasps are lacking. Text block is intact and the paper is supple, though with expected light uniform toning. Rear board is detatched, front board holding. Paged [6], 79, [1], 415, [1], 17, [1]pp ; 18 cm. Some pages with bars of music. Printed in two columns. Bound, as always, with Ein Neues Unpartheyisches Gesangbuch, with separate title page and pagination. Also imprinted Johann Albrecht, 1804 (Shaw and Shoemaker 6863). With 1825 ink ownership at rear of Maria Landis. This was the first of many editions of this popular Mennonite hymnal printed for the Lancaster Mennonite Church in the 1800's. A reasonably well preserved copy suffering from a detached rear board and loss of clasps. G+ Scarce

Title page trimmed hard in the right margin with engraved vignette off center and only a sliver of margin to the image. Contents snug and neat; decent margins remain in the text. Handsomely rebound. frontis engraving; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 165 pages; hardcover in original brown cloth with elaborate decorative blind stamped designs to boards; title letteringand pictorial elements brightly in gilt to spine. Issued as one of the volumes in the Francis & Co. "Little Library". Apparently the 2nd American edition after an 1847 James Miller printing. Illustrated with tissue guarded frontis engraving of "The Little Match Girl". Snugly bound and clean. Cloth lightly crimped at spine ends with trace fray. Boards lightly bumped at corners. Period gift inscription in pencil to front endpage. All endpages present and well bound. Expected light toning and occasional spotting to page stock. One page near front has a small piece of the page at the top corner torn away; the rear free endpage is missing a more sizable piece from the top corner. Still a very solid and still quite handsome copy of this scarce early printing of some essential Andersen tal;es, including the match Girl and Red Shoes among others. Page 154 to 165 comprise an afterword by Charles Boner with several pages of publisher ads appearing at rear. VG-

In near contemporary leather spine with later probably 19th century repairs. 1/2 leather over drab paper covered boards. Leather splitting over joints but cords holding. First 4 leaves, including engraved frontis and title page are only tenuously attached. Title and dedication page damaged with a uniform swath of the top 3 inches of the two leaves torn away - presumably to remove ownership inscriptions. (16) 483 pp. Boards heavily rubbed at edges with rough abrasion and surface loss along the top edge of the lower board. Leather at spine darkened with some crazing and loss of gilt detail in the ruling and title tooling. Damage to title and dedication leaves but otherwise textually complete. Expected light general toning and occasional spotting to text. Mounted to rear pastedown is the engraved bookplate of the Folthrop Royal Brighton Library (circa 1830's). Margins thin but without any encumbrance on the text or readability. Wing B3378. Fair to Good only. With all faults. ... Leather boards with shallow pitting uniformly across the boards, likely a result of the flecking chemical used. Original blank endpages retained; rear pastedown has had an ownership inscription rubbed and watered away with rub through to the board in a dime sized spot; ghost of inscription offset to facing blank. Tea colored damp line halos the front endpages. Short tear in the front margin of the copperplate frontis has been mended with japanese tissue paper. Prior ownership in manuscript across the top edge of the title page; a few isolated instances of a marginal notation or in-text mark. Very mild damp line across the lower edge/front corner of the margins about 1/3 of the text. Margins generous; contents bright and pages supple. Sound and well preserved in period binding. G++

Shallow chipping and loss to leather to base of spine; less so at crown. Marbled endpages with remnant of armorial bookplate to front; some damp evidence to endpages with mild perforation at foot of the rear lining pages. Light tea colored damp lines to the lower half of the last 25 and first 10 or so leaves. Extra engraved title page has a small chip missing from the margin at the bottom edge. Plates are crisp and well preserved with a few showing light damp lines most apparent on the blank sides. 19th century Philadelphia bookseller label to the recot of the first blank. Sound and complete, a solid copy in better than Good condition

Early leather boards with a recent but complementary rebacking, Four raised bands to spine; title lettering tooled in gilt. Original, engraved title page is chipped and missing an inch or more swath from the gutter forward including about 1/4 inch from the engraved illustration - but all title lettering and imprint lettereing remains. A narrow jagged chip of loss from the top edge into the image surface. Full title page supplied in facsimile and tipped to a stub. Front and rear pastedowns lacking but front blank present with an 1831 prior owner inscription. Contents complete save for loss to title page, and presumable 2 pages of advertisemt which may have been a terminal leaf. (18) page "Alphabetical Table" (index) at rear. A small cresent stain of oil or wax to the lower front corner of the first 15 or so leaves intrude into the text on only the first several printed leaves. Shallow chipping to the same pages at the lower corner tip. Small instance of worming in the top margin of pages 30 - 100. Front blank and A2 have had some paper supplied to the lower corners; no loss of text on A2. Occasional period notation and underlining. Margins trimmed and narrow in the latter two books with occasional minor loss to the printed margin notes. Solid and decent. Good copy, thus
