6 Sendak, Maurice Where the Wild Things Are
New York Harper & Row 1974 006025520x / 9780060255206 reprint Hardcover Very Good in Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Oblong 4to 11" - 13" tal; 37 pages; Early reprint. Inscribed and signed by Sendak in June of 1982. This 1974 reprint was made from new engravings of the original artwork. This copy was inscribed and dated by Sendak in June of 1982 to Robert Sxxxxxx by Maurice Sendak. Sxxxxxx's bookplate is mounted on the front pastedown. Laid-in at front is an invitation (single, printed pictorial card) to the opening night reception at the Rosenbach Museum & Library on June 8, 1982 - Sendak being the Guest of Honor. Sadly, though Sendak is not stingy with his autograph, his signature has increasingly become the subject of forgers and charlatans. This example has a solid provenance with the added inscription manuscript and the ephemeral material retained by the original owner, to whom the book is inscribed. The dust jacket is bright and clean with crisp edges and lush illustration wraparounf. Caldecott medal label attached at front. Non bar coded ISBN to rear panel. Curiously, the book has been bound upside down to the covers and thus I hgave downgraded the condition of the book to VG, though in actual condition it is very nearly Fine as is the dustjacket. ; Signed by Author
