Film Still illustrated dust jacket; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 451 pages; HC/DJ. Photoplay edition, published to coincide with the 1943 film starring Welles and Fontaine. Pictorial dust jacket features a film-still photograph of the actors. Snugly bound in original green cloth with title lettering in black. Dust jacket bright and clean with just mild shelf evidence at edges and trace furring at crown of the spine panel. War-time printing with usual notice of compliance with regulations for paper use. But the paper is supple and only minimally toned. Moderate offset toning to front flyleaf where a newsclipping was laid in. Prior owner name and address 1943 penned to front flyleaf. First few pages have a superficial and very small stain along the front margin. Attractive copy, uncommon in this edition. VG+/VG+

A stress crease across the spine has resulted in a short closed tear to the rear cover and a few tiny scuffs to the rear spine edge. Short 1 inch closed tear along the front spine edge from the crown is not visible unless opening the cover and could be mended if the buyer prefers. Contents bright and neat. In general appearance a VG or better copy but with the flaws noted, though not detracting much from appearance, are significant enough to warrant only a G++ to VG- grade. Very uncommon novel/tie-in for a film that had almost been completely lost. a 2010 DVD re-releases is planned; Lancer #74635; film stills; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 128 pages; 1970 Lancer #74635. Mass market paperback; movie tie-in. Super scarce movie edition. Covers are sharp and bright. A light/moderate scrunch to the lower edge of the jacket's rear panel has left some stress creases and a mild scuff. Movie still illustrated endsheets; front endpage has a light vertical crease which appears to be a product of the paper as produced and not from handling or wear. Page stock with a light to moderate general toning usually seen in the film edition. Illustrated with full page b&w film still reproductions. VG/VG-

Light gray cloth in a tweed weave with titles brightly in blue. Crisp sharp corners; brilliant white page stock and edges. Stunningly fresh dust jacket has a few minuscule closed edge tears. Prior owner name and date penned neatly to top edge fo front flyleaf. A lovely well preserved copy; difficult to imagine another in nicer condition. F/F. An early Gary Cooper role.

Snugly bound in thatched red cloth with titles boldly stamped in black to cover and spine. Illustrated with 8 stills fromt the film printed on glossy stock. Color pictorial dust jacket reproduces a scene fromt the fil on the cover panel. Jacket is rubbed and worn with furring over the front flap fold. Shallow chips from the spine ends; a long horizontal, closed tear across the width of the front panel had been mended by original owner on the reverse surface with paper adhesive tape. Light general toning to jacket surfaces. Shadow toning from several clippings that were laid in at the front endpage. Prior ownership penned to front endpage. VG+/G
