Titles brightly in gilt to spine. Light yellow colored pictorial dust jacket retains the 1st issue publisher price of $2.75 to the unclipped top corner of the front flap. Publisher codes 7042A and 7043B to front flap and rear flaps respectively; 4769 to rear panel. Mild and usual toning in the gutters of the endpages from period binder's glue; text bright and clean with Burgur's handsome illustrations . No marks. Dust jacket lightly rubbed at edges with shallow nicks and superficial loss at spine ends' spine panel with a whisper of sunning. Light shelf soiling to jacket surfaces. Though no statement of 1st edition is present on the copyright page, the jacket points to a 1st printing; we have yet. in some 20 years, to see a copy with a statement of 1st edition. 1956 Newberry Honor Book and the basis for one of the most loved Dog movies of all time. VG/VG

Color drawings, full page; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 1st edition. Snugly bound and very neat in original light blue, pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated throughout by color drawings by Dorothy Allen Deets. Front pictorial endsheet with a mild stress crease across the lower front corner. Text, clean, fresh and bright with no marks. Dust jacket has several small chips, nicks and short closed tears at edges. Front flap is price clipped from the top front corner and appears to have had the front most inch neatly trimmed either as a printer defect or as the sresult of an unexplainable action by the original owner. The flap is trimmed close up against the text of the text describing the narrative of the book. Still a very handsome and neat copy, uncommon in dust jacketed 1st edition examples. Lovingly illustrated Great Dane book for young ones. VG++/VG-

Woodcuts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 2 volumes, complete. Xlvi + 366 p. ; vi +383 p. In original heavy red cloth with decorative borders and rules to boards in blind; pictorial title designs to spines and vignettes to boards in gilt. Both columes with rubbing and light to moderate fray to cloth at spine ends. Lighter rub to cloth over spine edges and at corners. Volume II has a 3 inch closed tear in the cloth over the front spine edge and light abrasions/brusing to the front corners of the cover board; front endpage joint same volume is partially split and tenuous. Text blocks sound with a signature or two in both volumes starting a little at the front edge. Illustrated with tissue guarded frontis from woodcuts and 8 internal plates each volume. Prior owner names and dates in neat manuscrip to the endpages of both volumes. Generally sound and decent example. G+ ... Color Illustrations; Square 8vo 8" to 9" tall; Square format HC/DJ. 1st edition. Charming juvenile dog book with lovely color illustrations by Harry Hull. Constructed as an illustrated verse riddle book. Each recto page has a flap-fold; the unopened surface contains the verse describing charachter points of a breed. Opened the flap reveals the color illustration of the breed described. In original color pictorial dust jacket. Jacket is rubbed at edges with a few small chips and several closed edge tears. Light shelf rub to board edges and spine ends. Each page has a folding flap; in a few instances there is stress and partial cracking along the fold. We have mended one such fold with minimal application of archival japanese tisue paper. Several other of the fold should also be so mended; we will do so if instructed by purchaser. Manuscript in a child's hand inside the front cover describes the chicken pox related event which occasioned the book's being given as a get-well gift. Uncommon title, especially so in condition and retaining the dust jacket. VG/VG-
