B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 458 pages; HC In original green cloth boards with decoratively gilt stamped spine cloth laid down on a recent rebacking. Original pale yellow endpages intact. Binding snug; contents complete and very neat. Cloth corners lightly bumped; a short, very shallow divot (about 1/2 in length) out of the front edge of the rear board. Rebacked spine has been done professionally but using a rather heavy buckram underneath the original cloth spine panel. Two lengths of cloth tape carefully applied in the gutters of the front and rear endpages. Contents VG+ in a resored binding that preserves most of the original case. Overall G++

; Tissue guarded photogravure plates on vellum; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 236 pages; One of a deluxe limited edition of 750 copies. Snugly bound in 1/4 heavy cram colored linen spine over green cloth boards, with title lettering brightly in gilt to cover and spine. Top edge gilt and other edges untrimmed. Lavishly illustrated with 39 photogravure plates after Rubens, Teniers, Wootton, Stubbs, Oudry, Alken, Shayer, G. & M. Earl, and others; printed on vellum with tissue guards. This copy lacks the limitation page and the front lining sheets have been refreshed. A spot of nicking to the cloth at crown and a pair of tiny nicks to the cloth at tail. Boards lightly to moderately bumped with superficial fray at front corners. Mild foxing to rear lining sheets and to most of the tissue guards. Generally quite bright and clean, and though lacking the limitation leaf, otherwise complete and attractive. VG- to VG thus ... Oversize book will require additional charges for most shipping methods.

Publisher codes 7042A and 7043B to front flap and rear flaps respectively; 4769 to rear panel. Mild and usual toning in the gutters of the endpages from period binder's glue; text bright and clean with Burgur's handsome illustrations . No marks. Dust jacket lightly rubbed at edges with shallow nicks and superficial loss at spine ends' spine panel with a whisper of sunning. Light shelf soiling to jacket surfaces. Though no statement of 1st edition is present on the copyright page, the jacket points to a 1st printing; we have yet. in some 20 years, to see a copy with a statement of 1st edition. 1956 Newberry Honor Book and the basis for one of the most loved Dog movies of all time. VG/VG

Front pictorial endsheet with a mild stress crease across the lower front corner. Text, clean, fresh and bright with no marks. Dust jacket has several small chips, nicks and short closed tears at edges. Front flap is price clipped from the top front corner and appears to have had the front most inch neatly trimmed either as a printer defect or as the sresult of an unexplainable action by the original owner. The flap is trimmed close up against the text of the text describing the narrative of the book. Still a very handsome and neat copy, uncommon in dust jacketed 1st edition examples. Lovingly illustrated Great Dane book for young ones. VG++/VG-

B&W Illustrations on glossy plates; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 152 pages; 1st edition. HC in original ribbed green cloth with title design brightly in gilt to cover and spine; rules in blind. Inscribed and signed [Dec 25 1940] by F. H. Farnsworth, whose portrait appears as the 2nd illustration after the dedication page. Farnsworth was a highly regarded breeder of Pointers and owner of Citation, a much decorated winner, photo of which faces that of Farnsworth at front. Gilt at spine a whisper dulled; toning and discoloration to endpage gutters that is generally the rule with books published in this era -from the composition of the binder's glue. A highly regarded collection of short pieces and stories on hunting dogs; quite uncommon. This copy nicely preserved and in VG to VG+ condition; Signed by Associated
