B&W Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; Oversize Folio HC in olive green cloth with titles and ornate pictorial design stamped to front cover in black and gilt. All edges gilt; spine unlettered, as issued. A snug bright copy. Reproductions of salon works printed in photogravure on heavy stock sheets, attached to binding stubs. Le Roux, Muller, Bonnat and others represented. A scallop shaped damp line along the top front corner of the pages and plate sheets is in the upper margin and does not intrude into text or image. A thin red offset line from damped adjacent book is visible on the decorative front cover but is minor and rather unobtrusive. Mild shelf rub to tips of beveled edged boards. A handsome copy. B&W Illustrations on glossy stock from drawings ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 476 pages; HC 1st edition. Very handsome copy of this decoratively bound early science fiction novel by the wealthy business man, science enthusiast and Titanic victim, John Jacob Astor. In publisher's decorative trade binding of blue cloth with elaborate silver patterning to cover and spine, a silver solar system to rear board and title lettering brightly in gilt. Uniformly bright and neat with just a whisper of shelf evidence to the cloth at spine ends and corners. Coated light blue endpages are immaculate. Frontis by Kurtz and 9 plates on glossy stock, most from drawings by Dan Beard are immaculate. No marks. Astor speculates about Earth in 2000 and writes of several interplanetary journeys abourd the Callisto. His journey abord the Titanic much more tragic. Stellar copy. NF

Decorative pictorial binding with a Newell designed 4 color pictorial panel to the cover board. Title lettering in gilt to cover and spine. Illustration and gilt are bright. Mild soling to cloth and moderate darkening to spine; mild streaks of smoke staining to rear board and top edge. Contents bright and fresh; some pages unopened at the front edge. Small rectangular lettered portion of the original dust jacket is laid in at front. Attractive, author signed edition of these fantastical and humorous tales, well illustrated by Newell. Oblong 8vo 8" to 9" tall; 20 pages; 1909 for the author by S. C. Toof & Co. , printer. Oblong format volume bound in limp maroon suede leather with red silk lined endpages. All edges gilt. Bound with a wide silk ribbon. Tile lettering in gilt top cover with a light flaking to the gilt from the suede surface. Covers remain supple and clean. Poem is printed recto only on a parchment like paper. Two or tgree pages with a mild bit of soiling. Title page in red and black. Photograph image of the author is mounted to the recto of the terminal blank leaf. The poem is signed by the author below the final verse. Small prior ownership inkstamp of a Frazier in Philadelphia. A very uncommon commemorative Lincoln volume; only two are held institutionally as recorded by Worldcat. Frazer Boyle was a well regarded southern poet and novelist. VG+ example ; Signed by Author

Millersville; Equations; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 224 pages; Viii, (9) -224, 36 pp. What is unusual and striking about the book is the 1/4 leather period binding, with ornate rose cloth boards, blind embossed with a pattern of floral vines. It is a very unusual American binding for a school book of this period. Externally bright and neat with just mild shelf bumping to board tips. Regrettably missing the front endpapers, along with a 1" x 2" chip from the top corner of the title page, causing a loss of the letters "TISE" from "Treatise". Excisions of front matter likely undertaken to remove prior ownership inscriptions. Contents snugly bound with mild scattered toning and foxing to the page stock. Bound in at rea is the publisher's 36 page catalog of "Valuable school books". G++ to VG-

All edges gilt. Pages printed rectos only, each with a striking woodcut view or border illustration by Hows. Illustrated half-title page; endpages marbled. Pattern to leather rubbed flat at corners. Illustrated with frontis and 4 plates on glossy stock from drawings made by G. A. Harker. Ownership stamps to front and rear endpages of the Philadelphia Public School system, but otherwise a very handsome copy. Note that the signature monogram in the pictorial binding appears to be that of Amy Richards, but there is no definitive record of the book's design being attributed to her. VG- to VG Uncommon

Just trace shelf rub to the cloth covered jackets at corners and edges. Mild toning to endpapers and a hint of foxing to fore edges. Both volumes illustrated profusely with B/W photographs. Prior owner name penned neatly to front endpaper of volume 1. Quite uncommon in such exquisitely well preserved condition. Both volumes F/NF ... Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 406 pages; HC 1st American edition. Strikingly bound in decorative pictorial cloth binding, with design attributed to Howard Pyle. Square snug and very neat. Illustrated with 26 plates from drawings and engravings by Seymour Lucas, who was just achieving widespread notice around the time of this book's publication. Bound in fine mauve cloth with handsome and striking pictorial design in silver and black to cover and spine. Front board stamped in silver, black and two tones of gray with an image of a cloaked man, standing before a barred archway, and three stylized thistles at the bottom, with a vapor rising from one, crossing the cloaked man, extending toward the head of the board. Spine with thistle, sword, and vapor vignette; title and author in silver. Binding design unsigned but attributed to Howard Pyle. Cf. Minsky. Rear endpage inexplicably missing the front half of the sheet. Otherwise a wonderfully preserved example; bright and fresh. Well executed pictorial plates throughout. VG+ or better
