8vo 8" - 9" tall; 278 pages; 1st printing with Rinehart insignia on copyright page. Soundly bound in original dust jacket with publisher's $3.00 issue price intact to unclipped front flap. Jacket is ruffled and rubbed at edges with shallow chipping at spine ends, rubbing and furring over the flap folds, and short open snag along the rear flap fold. Some silverfish pitting and surface patchiness to rear panel of the jacket and crown of the spine panel. Owner first name penned top edge of the jacket's front panel. Small area of foxing ot the boards front and rear. A solid unmarked copy in a somewhat atty but complete dust jacket. VG-/G+

Lithograph; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 6 pages; [No date given] Circa 1855. Large format sheet music in original illustrated wraps. A six sheet piece of music by Charles Grobe, "respectfully inscribed to the Young Ladies of Linden Hall (formerly Young Ladies Institute)." The front cover, printed in stone lithography, depicts the "rear view" of the Linden Hall grounds mid 19th entury. Music notation comnprises three sheets with no linguistic content; the rear page is publisher ads. Some light soiling to covers and separation at folds. Trace glue residue at spine edge suggests the piece was at one time bound in a collection. Quite scarce with only two copies recorded on OCLC database records. A nice early ephemeral piece related to the oldest girls boarding/day school in the U.S.. G++

12mo 7" - 7" tall; First 4 volumes of what was eventually completed as a 6 volume set. Vol 1 1st ed of 1857; other 3 volumes issued in 1872 by Westhaeffer. Comprehensive biographical profiles of the many individuals who played primary or important roles in the development of the German Reformed Church, first in Europe and then primarily in America. Uniformly bound in original ribbed and blind-stamped brown cloth with titles in gilt to spines. Vol 1 with cloth a little rubbed spine edges and ends; mild chipping at spine ends. Prior owner's small ink name stamp to front endpage VG. V2 with a few tiny rub throughs spine edges and likewise rubbed and mildly chipped spine ends. Both volumes snug and neat complete with original endpages. V3 in simialr condition with gilt to spine a bit dulled. V4 with light to moderate silverfishing at board edges, corners and along spine. Several spots of spine cloth pitted, thinning and with mild loss. Crown of spine bumped with light abrasion/fray; contents sound and well bound. Together VG- but with vol 4 in poorer condition than the 1st 3. 2nd volume scarce and V 1 uncommon. ... Oversize book may require additional charges for expedited or international shipping.
