Photographs; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 2nd edition. In the deluxe binding of 3/4 dark blue morocco leather over light blue, thatched pattern linen boards. 9 of the 10 volumes, missing only Vol 8, "Soldier Life/Secret Service." Though lacking a volume this set is dignified by its especially nice condition and the deluxe binding format. Textured dark blue leather spines and corners with gilt rules at cloth and leather seams, triple gilt tules at spine ends, and gilt struck titles at spine. A few volumes with a nick or tiny chip to the leather at the cloth leather seams of the boards. Top edges gilt. Contents bright and fresh; bindings snug. Commanding shelf presence with immaculate spine surfaces. Prior owner's very tiny 4 numeral catalog number penned to the top gutter corner of the front flyleaf of each volume. Vol 8 not present, but otherwise an exceptional set of books profusely illustrated with Brady & Co photos. NF thus. ... Just trace shelf wear to spine ends. From the library of Lieut. J. O. Fisher, a 1902 graduate of Annapolis and member of the Bureau of Steam Engineering. Apparently he was on board the U. S. S. Dolphin at the time that he acquired this book. Fisher later took command of the submarine K-6 when it was launched in 1914. In WWI he took the sub on patrol in the Azore Islands, seeking out U-boats and surface raiders. Glossy pages feature 82 B&W illustrations. Appears generally unread. Notable prior ownership.
