125 [Simms, William Gilmore] Carl Werner, an Imaginative Story With Other Tales of Imagination [Vol 2 Only]
New York George Adlard 1838 First Edition Hardcover Very Good
8vo 8" - 9" tall; 208 pages; New York, George Adlard; 1838. Volume II, only. Paged [3] - 208 with [4] pages of Adlard publisher ads at rear. Bound in original patterned green cloth with lettered paper title label to spine. 1st edition of this very uncommon volume of short pieces by the highly regarded early 19th century Southern writer, historian and novelist, William G. Simms. This 2nd volume contains three of Simms' Cherokee related tales and though sadly lacking the 1st volume of stories, stands independently and thus complete in itself. A well preserved example in the full textured green cloth; original title label with quite minute lettering is missing only a micro portion of one corner and though toned is quite legible with complete lettering. Binding solid and contents complete and neat. Slightly cocked in the spine. The stories included in this 2nd volume are: "Conrad Weickhoff" -- "Logochie" -- "Jocassee" -- and "The Cherokee Embassage." A VG copy; quite scarce.
