Engravings; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 633 pages; Self-published in the author's home town of Lancaster PA. His reprinting of his personal account of particiapation in early battles as well as being held in the three primary Confederate prisons. First published in 1882, this book uses the layout and pagination of the 1887 Hubbard Brothers reprinting. Externally bright and attractive in burgundy colored cloth with pictorial title desings stamped in black and gilt to cover and spine.All endpages complete. Printed on lower grade paper which has toned as ussually seen in surviving copies. Inner hinge at the front endpages is partially split with another near complete split between the first blank endpage and the dedication page. Text block is snug. illustrated with reproductions of the plates executed for the work in 1882. An early printing with good shelf presence but with weakness in the binding as noted. G++
