Engravings, woodcuts, pictorial ads; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 612 pages; Bound in full polished calf with decorative gilt titling to front board and spine. Text block sound and clean. Boards just tenuously attached by cords with joints split. Leather chipped at spine ends; large chips also missing mid spine with title lettering partially lost. Front endpage loose, but the balance of the text is snug and sound. Board lightly rubbed through at corners and certainly worth conserving. Candidate for rebacking. Illustrated with tisue guarded engraved portraits, in text woodcuts and many illustrated period ads in the directory. Text block VG; binding in need of restoration. Thus Good overall. ... Contains 23 double page color maps plates mounted on binding stubs, along with comprehensive directory of Mission Societies, their area of work, thier financials if known, their publication/journal name etc. Complete and clean, but the binding is shaken and several of the map's binding stubs are pulling free of the binding. Last several pages of the index of Societies have an inexplicable vertical score near the binding edge of the pages; we have placed some archival paper mending tape to close the neat linear scores. Maps are in excellent condition and are impressively detailed and printed. An intriquing and comprehensive reference. Complete and clean but graded good only for the shaken binding and light rub to cloth at corners and spine ends. G to G+ ... Mild toning to paperstock. 4 page section including title page portrudes slightly from fore edge. This copy complete, including original floral decorated endpages and original photographic print of the Fitch homestead in Coventry Conn. Tipped in on page 34. Boards rubbed at corners and spine ends. Binding a bit shaken but generally sound with no loose or missing pages. A previous owner has made extensive additions and a correction or two to pages 99-101, in the matter of descendants of Rev James Fitch through the lines of his sons Nathanel and Joseph. Additions total perhaps 30 names in total with several notations of marriage. Errata sheet pasted in on rear endpage. Sound if a bit fragile and exceedingly uncommon in the original edition. Noteworthy additions in a period hand. Good
