Hearn & the Clarks to the owners of the Wyeth painting (from Rip Van Winkle) used for the front cover of the dust jacket and reproduced as plate 136. Known by the caption "It was with some difficulty that he found his way to his own house" this iconic Wyeth painting was lent to the Chrysler Museum for this monumental touring exhibition of children's book illustration. The shipping manifest for the return of the work to Bob & Carolyn Wohlsen with insured value of $200,000 is laid in at front. The book is snugly bound and neat with the original color dust jacket showcasing Wyeth's painting for Rip Van Winkle on the cover panel. Mild shelf/handling evidence to jacket edges and surfaces. Authorial inscriptions are dated June 1 1996 on the title page. A superb record of children's book illustration, handsomely illustrated with color reproductions from this landmark exhibition. Larger chips missing from the spine ends with the loss of 2 or 3 letters from the title at crown. Soine slightly cocked; mild binder's glue discoloration ubiquitous in books published in the 1930's.
