87 Carney, Don ; Uncle Don Uncle Don's Book On Etiquette and Things
New York Grosset & Dunlap 1930 reprint Hardcover Very Good Signed by Author
Line drawings; Square 8vo 8" to 9" tall; 125 pages; Circa 1930-31 reprint. Square format HC/DJ. Inscribed to the prior owner and signed by the author on the front endpage; author's facsimile signature on the title page. Snugly bound copy in original dust jacket with handling wear and rub to edges; a 1.5 inch piece missing from the crown of the spine panel with shallow loss to adajcent panels. Line illustrations in the text have mostly been filled in with color by a child's rather careful and tidy hand - a few such instances less perfectly done. Same owner's well accomplished and unusual colored drawing on the rear flyleaf. Graded dwon because of hand coloring to drawings , though to myself and others the diligence of the application may well add to the character of the book/ Thus G++/VG-; Signed by Author

88 Carpenter, W. H. & T. S. Arthur, (editors) & [H. Hastings Weld] The History of Pennsylvania from its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time. (Lippincott's Cabinet Histories)
Philadelphia Lippincott, Grambo & Company 1854 First Edition Hardcover Good+ Signed by Author
Engraved frontis; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 357 pages; 1st edition. Claim of authorship penned to front endpage by H[oratio] Hastings Weld thus : " This book was written for Messrs. Arthur & Carpenter by the undersigned, H. Hastings Weld". Weld's signature appears below this tatement and to the top edge of the extra, illustrated title page. Weld was a newspaperman, author and clergyman active in writing and publishing dusring the time this book was published. No record is found associating his participation in the writing of this history, but the claim of authorship in the man's own hand seems worth consideration as meritorious, given the nature of the publishing business at the time. This copy has been recased in a modern, heavy buckram with plain gilt title lettering at spine. Fresh endpages added but retaining original front and rear endmatter. Contents clean and neat. Includes engraved frontis of Wm Penn and an extra-ilustrated title page for the Lippincott Cabinet History series. Solid and snug in a modern rebinding with striking period ownership and claim to authorship. G++ thus; Signed by Author

93 Chase, Mary Ellen Recipe for a Magic Childhood
New York MacMillan 1952 First Edition Hardcover Good+ Signed by Author
Toned woodcuts; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 22 pages; Small format HC in patterned paper covered boards; 1st edition in book form after an initial print appearance in a 1951 issue of The Ladies Home Journal. Inscribed and signed by Chase on the title page. Soundly bound clean copy but with damp or spill evidence - a mild wave to the page stock as well as a superficial wash of the colors of the patterned print to the paper covered boards. Spine is a bit shelf cocked; the signature and inscription on the title page have a light fade/bleed from the damp exposure. Decent and certainly not unattractive but flawed thus.
