DogStar Books began as the daydream of a high school book lover. But it wasn’t until 25 years after the idea took shape that the book store opened in 2006. Prior to that the proprietor pursued bookselling as an occasional pursuit between travels overseas.
From 2001 through 2006 DogStar Books was a successful internet-only enterprise. In October of 2006 DogStar opened its doors as an open book shop.
Why a bricks-and-mortar book store? While the quantity of books offered over the internet continues to increase, the number of reliable and honest dealers appears to be declining considerably, especially when considered as a percentage of those selling books on the major selling venues. At the same time, there is a growing recognition of the importance of local, urban based and walkable retail destinations. Urban and semi-urban living is becoming considerably more attractive to many families and individuals. The prospect of walking or biking to local businesses to buy life’s necessities (including good reading material) to experience music, art and performance are prospects unique to city living. DogStar Books seeks to be part of that revitalization as an excellent book store and as a gathering place for the neighborhood.
At the same time we exist in an open international market online. With our new storefront we are able to put a large selection of our shop inventory just a click away from easy browsing in over a hundred categories. We’d love to see you come by the shop to check our wonderful shop but if you are half a world away please feel as welcome here in our online shop as you would be browsing the shelves at the store.
