[7], 698; 720; 726 pp. Some light to moderate scuffing and rubbing to leather at board edges; Vol I has a small piece of leather chipped from the crown and Vol III has shallow loss from leather at the tail of the spine. Tissue guarded steel engraved plates throughout, over 80 in total and including extra engraved title pages for each volume. Original coated brown endsheets complete and sound in the joints. All edges gilt. Binder's flaw in Vol III has left a signature including two engraved plates not sewn in on their binding stub; laid in but a little furred where the leaves started from the front edge. Most engraved plates bright and clean, some with mild foxing and a few more heavily foxed. Hand colored, folding map at front of Vol I is clean and generally neat with mild wear to folds. Uncommon in this deluxe trade binding, and thoug a bit rubbed and worn at edges - a generally bright and neat example. VG- thus ...
