[Kemble Copy]; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 248 pages; 1694 Ric. Everingham, for R. Bently at the Post-House in Russell Street, Covent Garden. 1st edition. 8vo in period leather. This copy with provenance noted of early 19th C, Shakespearean actor and book collector, John Philip Kemble, and later of British book collector Philip Bliss. 20th century ownership of Shakespearean scholar Henry Buckley Charlton, with his pictorial bookplate to the front pastedown. Text block sound but boards detached. Leather aged and crazed at edges and spine. Single blank at both front and rear; blank at rear loose. No half-title present but margins are wide and generous; this copy appears to be in contemporary binding. Expected light toning and occasional spotting to page stock. Above Charlton's bookplate is a penciled notation "Dr. Bliss' copy, also Kemble's copy." In an older and fainter pencil is a note "Kemble's Sale". To the top edge of the front flyleaf in an apparent early 19th C hand in very small lettering is noted "Sale at Sothebys." The catalogue of the books sold at the 1821 sale of Kemble's library records a copy of Blount's work as lot # 170 recorded with a buyer named Booth. This copy in a well worn contemporary binding with loss of leather to boards at edges and extremities. Needing restorative binding work. Good only thus.
