Color frontis and B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 330 pages; Signed limited edition, issued in a numbered limitation of 110 copies, this copy numbered 16 and signed by Barton on the limitation leaf. Association copy with prior ownership of Barton scholar, Bruce Kellner; his pictorial bookplate mounted to the front pastedown. Snugly bound in publisher's 1/4 red cloth backed spine and blue cloth boards with title design boldly in silver. Cloth at spine just slightly sunned; most pages unopened at front or top edge. Illustrated with a color frontis and b&w plates by the jazz age great illustrator, who here takes his hand at an irreverent and very sharp rendering of American history. This copy retains the original paper covered slipcase which is much worn at the edges with partial splits in the the top joints but reinforced with archival japanese tissue paper tape. Prior owner, Bruce Kellner, was close with Carl Van Vechten and served as care taker and executor of most of his photographic legacy along with many of his papers and letters. Barton was a special subject of his scholarship. Solid clean copy in much worn slipcase. Issued without dust wrapper in the signed limited edition copies. VG+; Signed by Author
