Engravings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 546 pages; 1st edition. The 1st collected edition of Gay's poems, containing several pieces first printed in this collection, including the pastoral tragedy, "Dione." Published as 2 volumes with separate titles pages but paged continuously and always found bound together in one volume. Illustrated with engraved frontis, two plates, head and tail pieces by William Kent. Contemorary polished calf with single gilt rule border to boards and extra gilt to spine compartments. Boards detached; leather over spine darkened with some distress and light chipping at spine ends. Armorial bookplate of Thomas Marshall to front pastedown. Marbled front endpage and front blank loose and laid in. A small tea colored spill stain to the frontis and title page. Wanting a rebacing restoration that could utitlize original boards. Contents complete and generally neat. Good only thus
