12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 246 pages; Soundly bound in contemporary or near contemporary leather. 1st edition of the Preston translation. Recently rebacked in an entirely sympathetic leather treatment. Leather boards with shallow pitting uniformly across the boards, likely a result of the flecking chemical used. Original blank endpages retained; rear pastedown has had an ownership inscription rubbed and watered away with rub through to the board in a dime sized spot; ghost of inscription offset to facing blank. Tea colored damp line halos the front endpages. Short tear in the front margin of the copperplate frontis has been mended with japanese tissue paper. Prior ownership in manuscript across the top edge of the title page; a few isolated instances of a marginal notation or in-text mark. Very mild damp line across the lower edge/front corner of the margins about 1/3 of the text. Margins generous; contents bright and pages supple. Sound and well preserved in period binding. G++
